I sympathise - intermittent probems are the worst to troubleshoot!The only event handlers that I have are within a userform (handlers that watch for list/button/toggle changes in the userform), but that's it, and the userform has always been unloaded when I have the problem. In addition to using the Ribbon preferences, you can choose the Customize Ribbon Tab Order option from the pop-up menu. This option temporarily changes the appearance of the tabs and allows you to drag Ribbon tabs to change their order. Click the Done button when you’re done rearranging the tabs. If you made changes that you don’t like, click the Reset button to set the tab order to default.

To allow you to insert rows and columns, you'll need to save your spreadsheet and, in true Microsoft style, close it and open it up again. Now you should be able to add columns and rows to you heart's content.
